A free public event where researchers from the Florida Manta Project share the science of Florida's manta rays with families and students. From 2-3 p.m. there is a screening of the short film "Winged Giants: A Florida Manta VR Experience"; from 3-4 p.m. "Florida Manta Girl" Jessica Pate presents The Mysterious Mantas of Florida. Running alongside it, 3-4 p.m., is All About Manta Rays, a kids' presentation and craft session for grades K-6. ScienceFor teachersHelp young learners do more than read about science. In this one-day professional learning conference, explore how students can engage deeply with science through literacy, inquiry, and innovation. Funded by the Meta Data Center Community Action Grant, Lakeshore Learning, and the UVU College of Science — registration includes a free UtSTA membership.
STEMFor studentsChildren ages 6-12 build and program machines with LEGO Education SPIKE Prime, applying STEAM concepts and the engineering design process through hands-on learning. Participants follow instructions to build a project, program the components, then bugfix, change and improve their program. Requires a 1st-grade reading and writing level plus keyboard and mouse proficiency. Runs 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; registration required, 6 seats remaining.
STEMFor studentsA full day of fall family fun at the Southeast's favorite rock show. Watch student engineering teams compete in a pumpkin-launching contest with hand-built catapults and trebuchets, then see physics in action up close with tabletop catapult models and build your own mini cup flinger to take home. Kids can crack open a geode, have mystery rocks and fossils identified by museum experts, explore the science of fall colors with hands-on leaf creations, and visit the Observatory for a look at the Sun. Indoor and outdoor activities run 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; the Observatory is open 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Free for members; regular admission for non-members.
