ScienceFor studentsA free public event where researchers from the Florida Manta Project share the science of Florida's manta rays with families and students. From 2-3 p.m. there is a screening of the short film "Winged Giants: A Florida Manta VR Experience"; from 3-4 p.m. "Florida Manta Girl" Jessica Pate presents The Mysterious Mantas of Florida. Running alongside it, 3-4 p.m., is All About Manta Rays, a kids' presentation and craft session for grades K-6. STEMFor studentsStudents in grades K-12 take part in hands-on, grade-level STEM workshops led by the NASCAR Hall of Fame education team. Through challenge-based activities they explore the science of force and motion that brings the sport to life, and earn a special patch for completing the challenges. STEMFor studentsChildren ages 6-12 build and program machines with LEGO Education SPIKE Prime, applying STEAM concepts and the engineering design process through hands-on learning. Participants follow instructions to build a project, program the components, then bugfix, change and improve their program. Requires a 1st-grade reading and writing level plus keyboard and mouse proficiency. Runs 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; registration required, 6 seats remaining.
STEMFor studentsA high-flying, hands-on introduction to aviation and drone technology for students in grades 7-12. Learn flight safety rules, airspace guidelines and pre-flight considerations, then assemble your own modular drone and practice piloting it. Explore careers in aviation, robotics and aerospace — and thanks to the Academy of Model Aeronautics, every student takes their drone home. Limited to 12 participants (currently sold out).
STEMFor studentsA full day of fall family fun at the Southeast's favorite rock show. Watch student engineering teams compete in a pumpkin-launching contest with hand-built catapults and trebuchets, then see physics in action up close with tabletop catapult models and build your own mini cup flinger to take home. Kids can crack open a geode, have mystery rocks and fossils identified by museum experts, explore the science of fall colors with hands-on leaf creations, and visit the Observatory for a look at the Sun. Indoor and outdoor activities run 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; the Observatory is open 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Free for members; regular admission for non-members.
STEMFor studentsA free event inviting students in grades K-12 to explore the wonders of Southwest Florida's environment through interactive activities, science experiments and creative nature crafts that make learning about conservation fun and inspiring. Participants meet environmental experts and educators, watch live science demonstrations, discover local wildlife through interactive exhibits and live animals, and get introduced to the library's books and resources on related topics. Exhibitors include Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife, Cape Coral Wildlife Trust, the City of Cape Coral's Rotary Park Environmental Center (live animals), Cape Coral Environmental Services, Cape Coral Garden Club (live butterflies and caterpillars) and Adams Animal Encounters.
