Maker Days at the Emerald Coast Science Center

A monthly drop-off STEAM workshop where student scientists ages 5-11 create, construct and make something new at each session through hands-on, creative exploration in a classroom setting. Runs 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; the same lesson is also taught on Tuesday, November 3. $35 for members, $40 for nonmembers ($10 off additional siblings); students bring their own snack or lunch. Preregistration is required and space is limited — a spot is not confirmed until payment is processed.

Children ages 6-12 build and program machines with LEGO Education SPIKE Prime, applying STEAM concepts and the engineering design process through hands-on learning. Participants follow instructions to build a project, program the components, then bugfix, change and improve their program. Requires a 1st-grade reading and writing level plus keyboard and mouse proficiency. Runs 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; registration required, 6 seats remaining.

Fall Fling at Tellus Science Museum

A full day of fall family fun at the Southeast's favorite rock show. Watch student engineering teams compete in a pumpkin-launching contest with hand-built catapults and trebuchets, then see physics in action up close with tabletop catapult models and build your own mini cup flinger to take home. Kids can crack open a geode, have mystery rocks and fossils identified by museum experts, explore the science of fall colors with hands-on leaf creations, and visit the Observatory for a look at the Sun. Indoor and outdoor activities run 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; the Observatory is open 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Free for members; regular admission for non-members.
