In this one-day professional learning conference, explore how students can engage deeply with science through literacy, inquiry, and innovation. Funded by the Meta Data Center Community Action Grant, Lakeshore Learning, and the UVU College of Science — registration includes a free UtSTA membership.
ScienceFor studentsA free public event where researchers from the Florida Manta Project share the science of Florida's manta rays with families and students. From 2-3 p.m. there is a screening of the short film "Winged Giants: A Florida Manta VR Experience"; from 3-4 p.m. "Florida Manta Girl" Jessica Pate presents The Mysterious Mantas of Florida. Running alongside it, 3-4 p.m., is All About Manta Rays, a kids' presentation and craft session for grades K-6. ScienceFor teachersFree, hands-on professional development from the Texas Water Resources Institute connecting classroom learning with local water quality. Educators explore watershed function, runoff, nonpoint source pollution and water quality through hands-on, collaborative activities tied to Central Texas springs, creeks and rivers. Activities and resources adapt to different grade levels, subject areas and settings, and participants leave with ready-to-use classroom materials. Runs 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and includes lunch.
