Beyond the Hype: Practical Artificial Intelligence for Special Education Professionals

Artificial intelligence is everywhere in education conversations, but what does meaningful implementation look like in special education settings? This engaging pre-conference experience moves beyond trends and tool lists to focus on practical applications that support instruction, accessibility, communication, collaboration, and educator workflow. Participants will explore how artificial intelligence can be used to strengthen lesson design, support student engagement, streamline professional tasks, and enhance access to learning while maintaining educator expertise and instructional decision-making at the center of practice. The session will also address critical topics including ethics, data awareness, responsible use, and evaluating the quality and appropriateness of artificial intelligence tools in educational settings. Through demonstrations, collaborative activities, implementation planning, and guided exploration, attendees will leave with adaptable strategies, practical resources, and greater confidence for navigating artificial intelligence in ways that support both educators and students.
