Introduction to Forestry Education for the K-12 Classroom

A full-day introductory workshop on teaching the importance of Wisconsin's forests to our ecological, economic and social well-being. Educators learn principles, activities and techniques to integrate hands-on forestry education into K-12 science, social studies, agriculture, mathematics, ELA and general elementary classrooms. The workshop demonstrates alignment to standards, STEM and career connections and literacy links, with a brief introduction to outdoor teaching, plus dedicated time to begin infusing forestry activities into your existing curriculum. Ready-to-use activities are supplied so teachers can integrate relevant lessons right away. Substitute reimbursements of up to $125 per participant are available to the school/district with an invoice; participants should bring a lunch.

Maker Days at the Emerald Coast Science Center

A monthly drop-off STEAM workshop where student scientists ages 5-11 create, construct and make something new at each session through hands-on, creative exploration in a classroom setting. Runs 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; the same lesson is also taught on Tuesday, October 6. $35 for members, $40 for nonmembers ($10 off additional siblings); students bring their own snack or lunch. Preregistration is required and space is limited — a spot is not confirmed until payment is processed.
